Willard Willis Friederich was born Wednesday, August 11, 1937 on the family farm near Tripp, South Dakota to Emil and Bertha (Dewald) Friederich. He attended country school through the 8th grade and then began working full-time on the farm. During his youth, he served in the National Guard. Willard was united in marriage to Arlene Delzer on December 6, 1964 at the United Church of Christ in Kaylor. They farmed three miles west and a half-mile south of Kaylor. In addition to his lifelong work on the family farm, Willard ran the maintainer on the Fair Township roads and worked for a time at the Kaylor Elevator. When illness made it necessary for him to retire in 1998, he and Arlene moved in to Tripp. He was a member of the First American Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Tripp American Legion Post. Willard passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Human Services Center in Yankton at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 21 days.
He is survived by a daughter, Judy (Don) Woehl of Scotland; four sisters: Phyliss Knittel of Freeman, Alice Goeken of Scotland, Margie (John) Stone of Wagner and Velda (Charles) Sell of Lakeland, Tennessee; and a brother, Maynard (Charolette) Friederich of Mitchell.
Willard was preceded in death by his Wife, Arlene in January of 2007, his parents, Emil and Bertha Friederich, two brothers, Arnold Friederich and Verlyn Friederich and two brothers-in-law, Harold Knittel and Floyd Goeken.
