Violettia “Vi” Simek was born on December 14, 1925 to George Elmer and Sara Violetta (Lord) Stillman in Wessington Springs, South Dakota. She grew up on the Stillman family farm ½ mile west of Scotland, South Dakota. She attended school in Scotland through the 8th grade. On September 17, 1958, Vi was united in marriage to Woodrow Simek in LuVerne, Minnesota. For over 30 years, she worked in Gran’s Market in Scotland. Vi went on to work for the Scotland School District in custodial services for several years. Following her retirement, she loved spending her summers babysitting her grandchildren in Springfield. She also enjoyed playing games, cooking, sewing, gardening, and baking goodies for her grandchildren.
Vi passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society of Tyndall having attained the age of 91 years, 10 months, and 5 days.
She is survived and remembered by her daughter, June Ruppelt of Springfield, SD; grandchildren: Amanda (Brandon) Souhrada of Tyndall, SD, Katie (Ryan) Love of Bennington, NE, Jason Ruppelt of Highland Heights, KY, Elizabeth (Pat) DeBoer of Clear Lake, SD, and Michael Ruppelt of Sioux Falls, SD; and great-grandchildren: Nicholas Souhrada, Kenzley Souhrada, Isaiah Love, and Noah Love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son-in-law Gary Ruppelt, and siblings: Alta, Alice, Hazel, Elmer, Ella, infant Elizabeth, Olive, and Grace.
