Kaylor

Thomas Erwin Weisz of Kaylor, South Dakota was born on September 7, 1951 to Erwin and Ruth (Magstadt) Weisz in Yankton, South Dakota. Tom died at the age of 72 of health issues on October 3, 2023 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Tom graduated from Scotland High School in 1969. After attending the University of South Dakota for about one year, he moved to Ottumwa, Iowa. From Iowa he moved to Chicago, Illinois where he spent most of his career in the telecommunications industry, working for Bell Telephone Company/Ameritech Corporation. Tom then moved briefly to Saint Louis, Missouri and in 2009 relocated back to Kaylor where he worked at the Kaylor Locker and helped with the care of his mother. Tom also volunteered many hours for SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) as a counselor to help seniors, their families and care-givers navigate Medicare and make informed decisions about coverage. Tom enjoyed time with family and friends, traveling, and celebrating any and all holidays. His caring for others was genuine. If he asked how you were doing, he sincerely wanted to know how you were doing. He believed in watching out for the little guy, the less fortunate, and helping out when he could.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, mother and his nephew, Cameron Weisz.

He is survived by his siblings, Susan (David) Waderich, Nancy Weisz, Debra (Thomas) Robertson and Bryan Weisz; four nephews, Drew (Amber) Waderich, Seth Waderich, Trent (Nichole) Waderich and Michael Robertson, and one niece, Andrea (Jesse) West, all of Colorado.

He will be greatly missed by his family and very dear friends, Linda Rose Semenzin, Josh Brown, Tom Carpenter, Josh Wudel, Summer Johnson, Koal Wudel, Sharon McDougal and Maynard Suess.

As per Tom’s request, no services are planned. He will be inurned at Rosehill Cemetery in Scotland, South Dakota.
