Theodore Ruben “Teddy” Schultz was born on Tuesday, October 12, 1926 near Freeman, South Dakota. His parents were Christian and Lydia (Holzwarth) Schultz. He was baptized on February 12, 1927 by Rev. John Bodenman in the Johannestal Reformed Church near Freeman. He attended various country schools in Hutchinson County through the 8th grade. He was confirmed on June 22, 1941 by Rev. William Korn in the Zion Reformed Kassel Church near Menno. Ted served in the U.S. Army from January, 1951 until December, 1952 and was stationed at Ft. Lewis in Washington. Teddy farmed all his life on the family farm 7½ miles northeast of Tripp. One of his favorite things was listening to polka music. After retiring from farming Teddy traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states and taking 13 overseas trips. Teddy passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tripp, having attained the age of 82 years, 8 months and 15 days.
Ted is survived by one brother, Gideon Schultz of Yankton; two sisters: Olinda Fuerst and husband Clinton of Tripp and Loretta Kirschenman and husband Willard of Menno; one sister-in-law, Delores Schultz of Tripp; 16 nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father Christ in 1956 and mother Lydia in 1975, his brother, Nathaniel on May 8, 2001; and sister-in-law Elda Schultz on March 15, 1998.
