Ruby Hicks was born Saturday, May 18, 1929 in Hutchinson County, near Tripp, South Dakota to Solomon and Anna (Goehring) Koth.
Ruby graduated from Tripp High School in 1947. After graduation, she attended the School of Cosmetology in Sioux Falls and began a career as a hair dresser that spanned nearly 50 years. After spending four years in Denver, Colorado, Ruby returned to Tripp and worked for Mae Dora Hieb for four years before owning her own shop for 15 years. Ruby retired from hair dressing in 2000 but she still felt the need to help so she went to work for the Tripp Good Samaritan Society in the activity department and beauty shop and retired after ten years. Ruby loved watching old movies and game shows and taking care of her dog Sami. She was very independent and enjoyed living by herself.
Ruby died on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 15 days.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. She is survived by her son Mark Lutz and his Significant Other, Arlene Schwarz of Olympia WA; her sister, Arvilla Perkinson of Virginia Beach, VA; two granddaughters: Danielle Lutz and Jessica Lutz; and great-granddaughter Madeline Lutz.
Ruby leaves behind a multitude of friends and many loving nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. Donations may be made in Ruby’s name to the American Legion Auxiliary.
