Rolan was born January 18, 1940 to Arthur Erck and Elizabeth (Hofer) Erck in Wagner, SD. On November 27, 1964, Rolan was united in marriage to Donna J. Voss at Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont. They were married for nearly 53 years and were blessed with four children. Rolan passed away on April 16, 2017 in Sioux Falls.
Rolan attended Pearly Mound country school and graduated from Tripp High School. He received an Agriculture degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. In 1960, Rolan began farming alongside his father. Following his father’s death, Rolan continued farming with his brother until 1984. Rolan served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 8 years.
Rolan started a career with Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL, now Thrivent Financial) in 1984 and retired in 2002. During his 18 year career, Rolan was nationally recognized repeatedly as a leading District Representative for AAL.
Rolan was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont. At his home church of Zion, he was baptized, confirmed, and married.
Rolan’s love of farming and machinery continued throughout his lifetime. Throughout his retirement, he restored Allis Chalmers tractors and farm equipment while involving his entire family in his hobby. He was a founding member of the Twin Rivers Old Iron Association in Delmont where he made many good friends.
Grateful for having shared Rolan’s life, is his wife, Donna of Sioux Falls; his children: Londa (Brian) Dewald of Lisle, IL, Bob (Bethany) Erck of Sioux Falls, Bill (Lisa) Erck of Brandon, and Jim (Paula) Erck of Tea.
