Robert “Bob” John Hinker

Robert John “Bob” Hinker, 85, of Tyndall, South Dakota, passed away on Friday, October 23rd at the St. Michael's Hospital. A Celebration for both of the lives of Robert and Arlene Hinker and memorial service will be held at the St John's Lutheran Church in Tyndall on Sunday, November 1st "All Saints Day" at 2pm. A graveside service for Robert and Arlene will be Saturday November 7th at 2pm in the St John's Lutheran Cemetery in Howard, South Dakota.
Robert "Bob" John Hinker was born December 19, 1934 in Woonsocket SD to Ruth Valetta (Flieschmann) and Francis Joseph Hinker. He was baptized at the Roman Catholic Church in Woonsocket, attended Catholic school in Epiphany, Canova public school and joined the US military enlisting in the Army on Feb 16th 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Arlene Marie (Jacobson) daughter of Carl and Eunice Jacobson on June 28th 1957. They were blessed with 5 children Craig, Scott (August 8, 1968) Bobbi, Bryon, and Krista. He became a member of St John's Lutheran on April 7th 1968. While living in Ohio he worked for Ford Motor Company painting cars and was a "Jack of all trades" they relocated in Sioux Falls area he worked at many jobs, tasks and skills, while driving truck for Sunshine foods and warehouse. In 1984 he moved Arlene and Krista to Tyndall and was the supervisor for the SD State Penitentiary in Springfield SD while continued service in Army National Guards in Rapid City and Mitchell SD.
He was proud of his service in the Army but his 1st heart attack in 1994 led to the honorable discharge from Army, Army Reserves, and Army National Guard and then retired with the State of SD after 13+ years. Bob absolutely loved cooking, hunting, fishing, enjoying time with all his grandchildren. He was a wonderful canvas painting artist and an interests in dancing and listening to country music. He also was a Green Bay Packers fan. He was loved by so many for his humor, trade skills, and compassion for his beloved wife and family. Bob was a passionate member of American Legion, honorable veteran and member of St John's Lutheran Church in Tyndall. Bob entered with his wife to Good Samaritan after many health issues. After Arlene's passing he had a broken heart indeed. Bobs last adventure was going to St Michaels Hospital of Tyndall. On October 23, 2020 he reached his hand out to join his best friend again and passed away while his 4 children were comforted by their parents reunion in faith.
Grateful for sharing his life are his son, Craig and late wife Christi (Feb 14, 2019) of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter Bobbi and life partner Bonnie of Tyndall, SD; son Bryon and wife Lisa of Canton; daughter Krista and husband Joel Humpal of Tyndall; sister in laws Karen Hinker of Wyoming; Beverly and her husband Royal McCracken; Nancy Cooley Jacobson Grieme and husband Ernie; many nieces and nephews; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother, Richard Hinker, son, Scott, daughter-in-law, Christi and great-grandson, Orion Hinker; brother-in-law, Ronald Jacobson; sister-in-law, Joyce Hansen and his loving wife, Arlene.
