Yankton

Richard ‘Rick’ Charles Anderson, 79 years old of Yankton, SD, previously of Sioux City, IA, was surrounded by his family when he took his last breath on Saturday September 21st, 2024 after his short stay at Majestic Bluffs in Yankton.

Rick was born on December 7th, 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa to Claude and Doris (Armstrong) Anderson. Rick attended various trade schools in the Midwest where he obtained a welding degree. Rick enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for 4 years as a Photo Interpreter during the Vietnam Era. On July 28th, 1973, Rick married Judy (Dodd) Anderson in Elk Point, SD. In his younger years, Rick worked as a specialty welder. In 1978 he was the director of building maintenance at Countryside Retirement Home in Sioux City, Iowa where he worked for 22 years. Rick then taught welding adult education class at Western Iowa Tech and was also a volunteer for hospice. He later worked at Kolberg Pioneer in Yankton and "in retirement" worked maintenance at the Kelly Inn in Yankton. He enjoyed fishing, reading, mowing and spending time with his family. Rick was a very hardworking, easy-going, laid-back individual. He didn't have much to say but you could always tell what he was thinking by looking at his facial expressions. Rick was an avid cat lover and he never turned away a stray. He said "If you can get here, then you're safe." Rick enjoyed sitting on the porch and going on fishing adventures with his friends Mike, Hilary and Bill.

Survivors include Judy Anderson of Yankton; brother, Dave and wife Anita Anderson; his three children, Serena and Doug Garvin of South Sioux City, NE, Scot and Michelle Lilly of Sioux City, IA and Leah and partner JB Pettiecord of Sioux City, IA; three beautiful granddaughters; four beautiful great-grandchildren and his nephew, Joey Ricard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Doris Anderson and his niece, Jane Ricard. Rick passed away from cancer.
