Ramona was born March 5, 1938 to Fred E. and Hilda (Schnabel) Jakober in Leola, South Dakota. She graduated from Eureka High School in 1956. Ramona moved to Pierre where she took a job at Scott’s Café. This is where she met Howard Goglin. They were married April 12, 1958 at her parents’ home in Eureka. Ramona continued working at the café while helping raise Howard’s five children. The birth of Jimmy Dean Goglin, December 1, 1958 was a joy, completing the happy family. Howard’s asthma took his life, November 2, 1961, at the young age of 32. Her grandma Lewis taught Ramona how to crochet in 1963 and many family members and friends received the beautiful afghans she made.
Ramona was determined to make a life for her family. The five older children went to live with their mother, while Ramona continued working at the café and caring for her son. Ramona married Carl Eschen, July 3, 1965. Following a honeymoon in the Black Hills, they gathered up their children, Deann, Carol, Dave, Barb and Jim and returned to Pierre where Carl served on the police force and Ramona left her job at the café to raise their family.
Ramona and Carl, who was now retired from the police force, moved to Tyndall in 1990 to be closer to Jim and their grandchildren, Tearakay and Eldon.
Ramona is survived by her son, Jimmy Goglin; step-children, Deann Crouch, Barb Adams, Billy (Goglin) Foster, Patty Anderson, Linda Young and Lannette Wilken; grandson, Eldon Goglin; granddaughter, Lauren Marks; furry grandchild, Winston James Goglin; great-grandsons, Caleb and Hayden Goglin; great-granddaughter, Kaydence Goglin; sister, Stella (George) Knapp; brother, Steve (Rhonda) Jakober; many step-grand and great-grandchildren.
