Paul Albert Young, age 73 of Hartington, NE passed away February 16, 2023.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. wake, Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Goglin Funeral Home in Yankton, SD.
A memorial service, led by Deacon Shane Kleinschmit, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 20 at Goglin Funeral Home, Yankton. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Gayville Cemetery.
Paul Albert Young was born March 11, 1949 to Albert and Inga (Larson) Young in Yankton, SD. Paul attended grade school in Gayville and then high school at Augustana Academy in Canton, SD. After graduation Paul farmed with his father. He was a member of the Tri State Old Iron Association. Paul loved to buy and restore John Deere Tractors.
Paul was a farmer, but also spent years as a truck driver. He enjoyed visiting and sharing stories of his travels. Paul had a strong work ethic and took great pride in all of his work, especially his Peterbilt trucks. His motto was “Take care of what you have, it will take care of you.”
Paul married Kathy Heimes on September 28, 2013. Paul was a private person in terms of his faith; however he had a strong belief in and personal relationship with God. He had many special friendships throughout his life. His wife, children, grandchildren and step-grandchildren were what he held dearest to his heart.
Paul is survived by his wife, Kathy of Hartington, NE; sons, Scott (Allison Allie) Young of Naples, FL, Jeffrey (Alexandra) Young of West Fargo, ND and John (Lesley) Young of Phoenix, AZ; step-daughters, Kimberly (Nick) Parks of Omaha, NE and Mindy (Jason) Peitzmeier of Omaha, NE; step-sons, Kyle Heimes of Wynot, NE and Tyler (Shannon) Heimes of Hartington, NE; sisters, JoEtta Kurtz of Sioux Falls, SD and Teresa Emerson of Lebanon, TN; grandchildren, Michael, Madeline and Maxwell Young, Arianna, Kaitlyn, Kinslee, Nixen, Dysen, Ayslee and Harley Heimes, Makenna and Kennedy Parks, Lincoln and Ellie Peitzmeier; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Liz Walsh and Mary Young; brothers-in-law, Marvin Kurtz and Robert Walsh.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established by the family.
The family would like to express deepest gratitude for the care and compassion, both physical and emotional, given during Paul’s cancer journey. A special thank you goes out to hospice for their care and concern. Paul so enjoyed their visits, along with many other friends and family for their constant prayers, love and support of our family.
