Oliver Adolph Mogck was born Sunday, June 10, 1928 at Olivet, South Dakota to Gustave Adolph and Lillie (Schlechter) Mogck. He graduated from Scotland High School in 1946. He earned a degree in Vocational Agriculture from South Dakota State University in Brookings in 1951. He entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Returning to the area after his military service, he began farming near Tripp. Oliver was united in marriage to Norma Bietz on June 20, 1954 at the Dennewitz Lutheran Church. They farmed near Tripp and Oliver raised registered Angus cattle. He taught Veteran’s Agriculture classes at Tripp High School in the evenings. Oliver was brought up in the Congregational Church and later became a member of the First American Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Choir. He enjoyed researching his heritage and studying genealogy and was a member of the Germans From Russia Society. He was also a member of the Tripp American Legion. He restored a 1928 Essex and enjoyed driving it in parades. Oliver enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and he also liked to go fishing. He enjoyed traveling and drove to Alaska and back just a few years ago. Oliver passed away on Friday, May 28, 2010 at his residence in Tripp, having reached the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 18 days.
Oliver’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Norma Mogck of Tripp; four children: David (Candyce) Mogck of Tripp, Susan (Jim) Abbott of Austin, Texas, Brian (Dee) Mogck of Tripp, and Gail (Craig) Flaa of Sioux Falls; ten grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Duane (Leona) Mogck of Scotland; and one sister, Darlene (Eldon) Pearson of Salem.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Olivia, and two brothers-in-law, Maynard Bietz and Ralph Stephenson.
