Merva Joan Sage

Merva Joan Sage, age 83 of Tyndall, South Dakota died Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Sr. James Care Center in Yankton.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2022 at Goglin Funeral Home in Tyndall. The funeral home will open at 9 a.m. for visitation. Inurnment in the Tyndall Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Merva was born Wednesday, March 29, 1939 to Leonard and Doris L. (Weiting) Zwanziger in Huron, South Dakota. The family moved to Tyndall, SD where Merva attended school and graduated from Tyndall High School.

Merva married Ervin E. Sage March 9, 1961 at Yankton, South Dakota where they made their home and raised their family. Merva was a stay-at-home mother. When the children got older, she began work outside the home as a CNA at the Human Services Center.  She worked for several years for the Colonial Inn Motel. Merva worked at Alafs until their closing, then at EPI for a short time until health problems required her to retire.

Merva enjoyed quilting, crafting, fishing, taking road trips and camping with family and friends. She was very kind hearted, willing to do anything for anyone. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.

Merva is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ervin; daughter, Cathy (Melvin) Peterson; sons, Gordy (Kathy) Sage, Kevin Sage and Clyde (Betsy) Sage; sister, Melva (Bill) Giles of Kingston, OH; brothers, Myron (Karen) Zwanziger of Springfield, SD and Monty (Wanda) Zwanziger of Oklahoma City, OK; granddaughter, Julie (Mitch) Lansdowne; grandson, George (Caroline) Peterson; great-granddaughters, Laikyn and Braylee Lansdowne, Adalynn and Emerson Peterson; brother-in-law, Al Neiffer of Huron; sister-in-law, Kay Zwanziger of Georgia; many nieces and nephews.

Merva was preceded in death by her son, Kim Sage; parents, Leonard and Doris Zwanziger; sister, Myrna Jean Neiffer; brothers, Murray Zwanziger, Mervyn Zwanziger and Marlyn (Buzz) Zwanziger.
