Melroy Johnny Hofer was born Friday, April 28, 1939 to John E. and Susie (Wipf) Hofer in Huron, South Dakota. He proudly served in the United States Airforce from September 7, 1956 to September 8, 1959. He was stationed at Chennault Airforce Base in Louisiana.
Melroy married Elizabeth Stahl. Melroy was employed by Farmland COOP his entire career, working over the years at their locations in Yale, Tyndall, Burke, Dallas, Irene and Springfield for 35 years, retiring in 2001.
Melroy had a strong Christian faith and was a faithful member of Springfield Community Bible Church. He was passionate about teaching others about Jesus and the Bible. He was caring, full of grace and loved his family.
Melroy enjoyed reading the Bible, going to church and attending prayer meetings with his friends. He loved spending time with his family and visiting with friends.
Melroy was a 55 year member of the American Legion. Most recently he became a member of Dwight Wood American Legion Post in Springfield.
Melroy, age 81 of Springfield passed away Monday, November 23, 2020 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
Melroy is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Stahl Hofer; daughters Janie (Tom) Bares and Brenda (Randall) McGruder; grandchildren Tony (Angie) Bares, Valerie (David) Reed, Nathan (Ellise) McGruder and Wade (Jessica) McGruder; great grandchildren Layne, Alli, Daniel, Melodie and Jaxon; sister Rose (Darrel) Dietrich; numerous nephews and nieces.
