Maydean Margean Dewald, formerly of Tripp, SD, passed away, Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Bormann Manor in Parkston. She was 88 years old.
Maydean Margean Dewald was born February 13, 1934 to Otto and Edna (Stoebner) Herr on a farm northeast of Tripp, SD. She grew up on the family farm helping with housework, herding cattle in the road side ditches and picking up cobs in the hog yard to heat the house in the winter. She completed eighth grade at Lakeside School District #40. Maydean worked for neighboring families, assisting housewives with household chores.
Maydean married Arlo A. Dewald June 12, 1955 in Tripp. She became Arlo’s soulmate and partner, helping with all aspects of farming. She raised big gardens, canned vegetables and sewed clothes for herself and her children. She had a special talent for weaving beautiful rag rugs. She enjoyed baking, making the best cinnamon rolls in SE South Dakota. Maydean was a hard-working devoted Christian who was the matriarch of the bunch.
Maydean is survived by her husband, Arlo Dewald; children, Mary Dewald (special friend, Chuck), Terry Dewald-Fredrick (husband Jay) and Steven Dewald (wife, Marcia); nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Haase and brothers, Wilmer (Wilma) Herr and Harvey (Maxine) Herr.
Maydean was preceded in death by her father, Otto Herr; mother, Edna (Stoebner) Herr; sister, Ruth Baltzer and brothers-in-law, Ruben Baltzer and Duane Haase.
