Mary Margaret Westergaard

Mary M. Shepherd was born November 13th, 1955 to Harold H. Shepherd and Berniece (Lydon) Shepherd.  For grades one through eight she attended Sacred Heart Parochial School.  She graduated from Yankton Senior High School in 1974, and worked at various places, including Gurney's Hatchery and Dale Electronics.  On December 24th, 1977, Mary married Algeen Westergaard.  Mary and Al worked construction jobs all throughout the southwestern United States before returning to South Dakota in the 1990's.  Mary enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, sewing, dancing and spending time with friends.  She treasured the times she went hunting with her father.
Mary is survived by two sisters: Susan Bailey of Colorado, and Shannon (James) Gleich of Yankton, two nephews: Patrick Bailey and Bryan Bailey of Colorado, one niece: Katie (Jeremy) Hoeck of Yankton, a stepdaughter: Theresa, two brothers-in-law and their families: Bruce (Lorie) of Brookings and Gayle (Rita) of Viborg, two sisters-in-law and their families: Kathy (Ed) Ides of Seattle and Carolyn (Doug) Koepke of Africa. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers, James Shepherd and Harold J. Shepherd.
