Marvin Haase, 89 years of age passed from this life on Friday, May 11 in Scotland, South Dakota.
Marvin was born on March 22,1929 to Libbert and Frieda (Schneider) Haase in Scotland, South Dakota. He grew up in Scotland, and graduated from Tripp High School. Marvin entered the Army in 1951 and was stationed in Vienna, Austria, an experience he often recalled and spoke of fondly. After his stint in the military Marvin returned to Delmont and married Syrolla Mehlhaff on September 28, 1954. Together they farmed south of Delmont and later moved to farm in the Scotland area. They settled on the family farm until his retirement in 1998 . Following his retirement the couple moved to Scotland where he resided until his passing.
Marvin will be remembered by many for his wry wit and love of good-natured humor. He enjoyed his coffee time with his neighbors. He often found it to be a highlight of his day after his retirement. His hobbies included woodworking, and he made a large number of toys and scrollwork projects for family and friends. He also enjoyed photography and created an extensive record of his family and his travels. Marvin was active in his church, and those who knew him can attest to the importance he placed on his faith and his love of singing hymns. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Scotland and also served as a member of the school board for the rural school his children attended.
He was preceded in death by his father Libbert, mother Frieda, step-mother Emma, and brothers Clarence and Melvin. Marvin is survived by his wife Syrolla, a brother, Duane and step-sister Marlene. He had three children; Ken (Lori) Haase, of Parkston, SD; Cindy (Mark) Coe of Grand Island, NE; and Jo Auch of Pierre, SD. His legacy includes 5 grandchildren: Laura Beth (Nick)Thomas, Dr. Matt (Jenna) and Michael Coe, Ashley (Andrew) Schrank and Kyle Auch. He leaves four great-grandchildren: Mason, Asher, and Max Thomas; and Madison Schrank.
