Marjorie Mary Sternhagen passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society, Tyndall. She was 94 years old.
Marjorie Sternhagen was born at the family farm, six miles southwest of Tyndall, South Dakota, December 8, 1927 to Anton Sr. and Hattie (Bouska) Hovorka. Margie spent most of her time at the farm taking care of her younger siblings. She was the oldest of 9 children born to the family.
Margie married Leo Sternhagen and they lived in the Tyndall area and later in Albert Lee, Minnesota. Not long afterward, Leo went to California and Marjorie went to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she worked for a computer company for many years. During that time she really enjoyed golfing. Leo returned to her when he became ill in California and had no one to care for him. She took care of him and upon his death she brought him back to Tyndall for burial.
After that she worked various jobs in Yankton until her retirement. Marjorie was a hard-working person who was always true to her beliefs. She was a charter member of the Tyndall VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Marjorie is survived by a brother, Joe Hovorka of McCook Lake, SD and a sister, Judy (Richard) Kornder of Aberdeen, SD.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; brothers, Butch Hovorka, John Hovorka and Jim Hovorka; sisters, Delores Kortan, Norma Hovorka and Nancy Stulc and her parents, Anton and Hattie Hovorka.
