Marilyn Lucile Kepplinger was born Thursday, October 19, 1933 to Ross and Lucile (Dingman) Hebbert in Scotland, South Dakota. She grew up on the family farm in rural Scotland. Marilyn taught in the country schools in Bon Homme and Hutchinson Counties before starting her 33 years of teaching at the Tripp Public School. In that time, she completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Southern State College in Springfield, SD and her Master’s Degree in teaching at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Marilyn was eventually the Elementary Principal of Tripp Public School.
Marilyn married Clyde Wayne Kepplinger March 16, 1953. They lived in Scotland for seven years before moving to Tripp, SD. She was active in the Bar Nothing Extension Club, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Tripp Study Club and the Red Hats Society.
Marilyn loved teaching and is remembered by many students as being a stern but fair teacher. She never wanted to be anything else. She loved traveling and enjoyed the winters in Alamo Palms, Texas. She made many friends and was active in the Community Hall serving cookies and ice cream.
Marilyn loved spending time with her family. She looked forward every year to going shopping with her daughters, granddaughters and her niece Mindy. She will be missed greatly.
Marilyn passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020 with family by her side.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Clyde of 66 years; her children: Cynthia (Jeff) Van Rooyen of Sioux Falls, SD, Candyce (David) Mogck of Tripp, SD, Darcy (Joel) Permann of Delmont, SD, Kevin (Karen) Kepplinger of Myrtle, Missouri and Val (Tom) Burg of Madison, SD; special niece Mindra Hebbert of Yankton, SD; her brother Larry (Judy) Hebbert, Scotland,SD; sisters-in-law Betty Hebbert in Florida, Ann Hebbert in Arizona, Norma Schamber, Scotland, SD; brothers-in-law Melvin Kepplinger of Scotland, SD and Clark Kepplinger of Florida; her 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Bob and Marvin; sister Joyce Darlene; brothers-in-law Marvin Schamber and Ray Kepplinger and sister-in-law Virginia Kepplinger.
