Marie Weidner of Tyndall, passed away at the age of 96 surrounded by her family, Monday, July 4 at Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a wake at 7 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2022 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Tyndall.
Funeral Mass for Marie Weidner will be held at 10:30 a.m. July 11, at St. Leo's Catholic Church, with Fr. Joe Forcelle officiating. Pallbearers will be her 8 grandsons.
Marie was born May 6, 1926, to Henry and Katherine (Starmann) Raterman of Butte, NE. Marie attended Catholic school in Butte, NE for 6 years. In 1939, she moved with her parents to a ranch near Fairfax, SD where she finished school and resided until 1945.
She married James Pesek and moved to Colome, SD. To this union 6 children were born, James Jr., John, Jerry, Joanne, Jolene and Jane. In 1967 the family moved to Tyndall. Marie worked for several years at Gurney's and Dale Electronics, in addition to volunteering, fixing hair at Tyndall Good Samaritan Center and delivering Meals on Wheels.
In 1980, she married Gus Weidner and moved back to Colome where she worked side by side with her husband on the farm. When Gus passed away in 1990, Marie moved back to Tyndall to be near her children. Marie enjoyed being near her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was often seen at all of their events, cheering them on with a big smile. Marie could also be found baking in her kitchen, making her favorite lemon pie and kolaches.
Marie is survived by her 5 children, John (Janet) Pesek, Jerry (Linda) Pesek, Joanne Huchtmeier, Jolene (Dave) Vavruska and Jane Larson all of Tyndall; daughter-in-law, Delores Pesek of Yankton; 6 step-children, Lee (Judell) Weidner and Judy Vobr of Colome, Janice (Dennis) Grenoble of Gregory, Janell (Roger) Heath and Fred (Dena) Weidner of Colome and Dave Liesinger of Sioux Falls; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus; her son, James Jr.; step-daughter, Mary; step-son-in-law, Charlie Vobr; her parents; 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
