Marie Elaine Kocourek was born on August 12, 1951 in Yankton, South Dakota. Her parents were William and Elaine (Hojem) Wampol. She attended school in Yankton, SD. She married Arnold “Arne” L. Kocourek on December 11, 1992 in Yankton. She ran a daycare in her home in Jefferson, SD for many years and was employed at various time periods at M-Tron in Yankton. She passed away at home on May 1, 2019, at the age of 67.
For anyone who knew Marie, knew her love for her family, and then her love for gardening. She was always beaming when talking of her family – children, especially her grandchildren. And the size of her gardens! The garden plot was usually the first plan when moving to a new home. She sold and then generously donated her plentiful crops to share with others. There was no talking her into downsizing.
Surviving are her children: Ken (Tabitha Harris) Selvia of Yankton, Tammi (Roger) Adam of Yankton, Rochelle (Dustin) Larsen of Yankton, and Charesh (Michael) Lewin of Merrill, Iowa; grandchildren: Halie and Marcus Adam of Yankton and Peyton Lewin of Merrill; loving brothers: Kenneth (Pat) Wampol and Rockie (Kay) Wampol; one loving sister, Karen (David) Child; sister-in-laws, Rhonda Lupton and Patty (Paul) Schmitt; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Arne; her loving parents; brother, William “Billie” Wampol; and numerous uncles and aunts.
This obituary was written in loving memory by the family of Marie Kocourek.
Following the services, a time of fellowship and a brief lunch will be held in the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, Tyndall.
