Magdelena Kathryn Pietz was born on January 28, 1919 to August and Kathryn (Jochems) Schlenker in Delmont, South Dakota. She attended country school through the 7th grade at which time she remained home to help her family on the farm. On November 28, 1943, she was united in marriage to Ruben Pietz in Tripp, SD. For many years, Magdelena cooked at Hink’s Café and the bowling alley until she retired in 1980.
Magdelena loved embroidery, quilting, and serving in the Women’s’ Guild at Frieden’s Reformed Church in Tripp. She especially cherished her family. She looked forward to cooking for her grandsons and loved spending time with her great-grandchildren.
At the age of 92, due to her health and advanced age, Magdelena was no longer able to live on her own. At that time, she moved in with her daughter’s family in rural Wentworth, SD. The family was blessed and able to enjoy the next 6 years alongside each other.
Magdelena passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at home in rural Wentworth, SD while surrounded by her loving family. She had attained the age of 98 years, 6 months, and 27 days.
She is survived and remembered by her daughter Lourine (Gary) Vostad of Wentworth, SD; grandsons: Scott (Lisa), Shannon, Ryan, and Andrew; and great-grandchildren: Henry and Katelyn. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980, parents, 7 brothers, and 3 sisters.
