Mabel Rose Heisinger was born on April 10, 1926 to William and Theresa (Lammers) Lange in Nebraska. She graduated from Crofton High School in 1942 and went on to earn her teacher’s certificate from Mt. Marty College, Yankton in 1943. For a time, Mabel taught at many rural country schools and later worked for Dale Electronics in Yankton. On June 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to Lawrence H. Heisinger in Crofton. Together they made their home near Tripp. Mabel’s home was always full of children, at times it was her own ten little ones and at others it was the many Tripp children she babysat over the years. She also worked at the Good Samaritan Society of Tripp for over 30 years. Mabel was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Tripp, where she served as a member and President of the church’s Altar Society.
Mabel loved cooking and baking, especially her caramel rolls which were beloved by family and friends. Anytime someone would ask for the recipe, Mabel was quick to smile and say it was a secret. While on the farm, she nurtured an abundant garden and when she moved to town she continued to use her green thumb raising beautiful flowers. Every holiday, people could look forward to seeing Mabel’s yard decorated and festive. Mabel was an elegant woman who took special pride and care in her attire. Throughout her life, she loved waltzing and dancing to polka music alongside her husband.
In September 2013, Mabel became a resident at the Good Samaritan Society of Tripp where she lived until her passing on Thursday, January 7, 2016 having attained the age of 89 years, 8 months, and 28 days.
She is survived and remembered by 9 children: Barbara (Lorin) Schmidt of Parkston, William “Bill” Heisinger of Tripp, Robert “Bob” (Rachel) Heisinger of Tripp, Daniel Heisinger of LaMesa, CA, Mary Pat (Randy) Rauch of Parma, MI, Steven (Becky) Heisinger of Sioux Falls, Jane (Dennis) Fixsel of Sioux Falls, Carol Brosz and fiancee Jeff Gelsone of Bandera, TX, Lawrence Jr. (Kristi) Heisinger of Spencer, IA; 25 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
