Louise Pauline Pravecek was born on Monday, December 16, 1929 to James and Albina (Brosky) Kalkus in Wagner, South Dakota. She graduated from Ravinia High School and earned her teaching certificate at Southern State College. She taught country school near Wagner for four and a half years. Louise was united in marriage to George Pravecek on April 5, 1951 at Dante. She worked with George on the farm and at their Standard Station and shoe shop in Tyndall. Louise was also a cook at the Tyndall School for over 25 years and at Dakota Senior Meals for many years. She was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church and also St. Leo Altar Society. Louise was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and enjoyed spending time with her family and especially loved family reunions. She also enjoyed watching soap operas and the Minnesota Twins on television. She liked to play cards, especially pinochle, and enjoyed socializing with her friends; she spent many happy hours in the company of her coffee group. Louise passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 28 days.
Grateful for sharing Louise’s life are her three sons: Jim (Lois) Pravecek of Wagner, Terry Lee (Terry Lynn) Pravecek of Sioux Falls, and Virgil (Connie) Pravecek of Tyndall; seven grandchildren: Jesse, Nick, Elizabeth, Rachel, Trena, Alysia and Victoria; one great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her husband, George Pravecek in 2001, her parents, James and Albina Kalkus, two sisters and a brother.
