Lorene Elvera Eilmes was born April 11, 1928 to George and Bertha (Ohling) Gerjets at Scotland, SD. She died on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, Viborg, SD. She was baptized by Rev. A. Linneman and confirmed by Rev. A.B. Meyer in 1942 at Ebenezer Reformed Church of Scotland. Lorene married Ruben Eilmes on July 25th, 1947. They resided in rural Scotland where they farmed until 1992 when they moved to Scotland. Lorene worked as a CNA for the Good Samaritan Center, Scotland, and the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno, for nearly 30 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Scotland. She loved gardening, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruben passed away in June, 2004 after which Lorene moved to Pine Lane Estates in Yankton, SD.
Lorene is survived by three daughters: Yvonne (Darrell) Swensen of Irene, Karen Sorgdrager of Sioux Falls, and Sheila (Ardon) Wek, of Freeman; a son-in-law, Milton Schnabel of Menno; grandchildren: Mark (Kerri) Swensen, Freeman, SD, Kari Swensen, Yankton, SD, Marty (Jodi) Swensen, Irene, SD, Janelle (Henry) Bender, and Emily Schnabel of Menno, SD, Frank Schnabel, Sioux Falls, SD, Steven (Joyce) Schnabel of Rapid City, SD, Karla (Danny) Washington and Becky Wek of Sioux Falls, SD; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Bliss Gerjets of Ortonville, MN, and Fernetta Strand of Centerville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ruben, a daughter, Joyce Schnabel, four brothers: Albert, Frances, Ernest and Elmer, one sister, Henrietta Losing, three brothers-in-law, Eugene Eilmes, Herbert Eilmes and Christ Losing, two sisters-in-law, Lyla Gerjets and Delores Gerjets, and two grandchildren.
