Loren D. McKittrick, age 87, died Friday, January 31, 2025 at Sr. James Care Center in Yankton.
Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. wake, Monday, February 3 at St. Leo Catholic Church in Tyndall. Funeral Mass is 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 4 with celebrant Fr. Bob Lacey at St. Leo.
Pallbearers are Roger Swanson, Jeff Scieszinski, Dan Varilek, Mike Slama, Jacob McKittrick and Jordan McKittrick. Honorary pallbearers are the Tyndall Fire Department, Leonard Huber, Leroy Sorenson, Gary Schnabel, Vern Tolsma, Dan Miller, Duane Tucker and Loren’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment will be at St. Leo Catholic Cemetery.
Loren was born May 1, 1937 to Cecil and Val (Jensen) McKittrick in De Smet, SD. The birth of his sister, Sandra completed the family. He served 2 years in the US Army. Loren was united in marriage to Evelyn Varilek, October 6, 1962 at St. Leo Catholic Church in Tyndall. They were blessed with four children. Loren was an over the road truck driver for 23 years. He then worked as a crane operator for 10 years. Prior to retirement, he was an employee of Co-op Inc.
Loren attained 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus, where he also served a term as Grand Knight. He served 26 years on the Elliot Hose Co. #1 Fire Department. He was also an EMT for 6 years.
Loren is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn of Yankton; children, Thomas (Deb) McKittrick of Park Hill, OK, David (Deann) McKittrick of Adrian, MO, Barbara (Jamie) Muller of Tyndall and Richard (Susan) McKittrick of Ankeny, IA; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Val McKittrick; parents-in-law, Paul and Marie Varilek; 2 sisters-in-law; 4 brothers-in-law; 2 nephews and identical twin great-grandsons.
