Lars Alan Jezek was born on November 12, 1937 to Louis and Helen (Herman) Jezek on the family farm in rural Hutchinson County, South Dakota. He attended Sharon #81 country school through the 8th grade and went on to graduate from Scotland High School. In 1955, Lars enlisted in the United States Navy and was trained as an electrician during his service. He was honorably discharged in 1959.
On October 24, 1961, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Tucek at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in rural Tyndall, South Dakota. Lars was a hardworking, jack of all trades throughout his life. He often worked as a self-employed electrician locally as well as for pipelines and oilfields. For a time, he was also a general contracting electrician and farmer.
Lars was very handy and fixed everything. He enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants. He also looked forward to sharing stories and polka dancing. He especially loved his dogs. He was a member of the Jelkin-Harms American Legion Post #142 in Tripp.
Lars passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at his home in Kaylor, SD having attained the age of 81 years, 8 months, and 5 days.
He is survived and remembered by his wife of over 57 years, Sylvia Jezek of Kaylor, SD; children: Tom Jezek of Kaylor, SD, Cindy (John) Herr of Tea, SD, Connie (Brian) Tinney of Farmington, MN, and Cheri (Barry) Strombeck of Farmington, SD; and grandchildren: Tanner Herr, Brittany Strombeck, Brett Herr, and Brady Strombeck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nyla Vellek, and nephew Michael Vellek.
