Karon Wessels, 79, went to her heavenly home Friday, May 10, with her family surrounding her at Avera St. Benedict’s Hospital in Parkston, South Dakota. There will be a private family memorial at a later date.
Karon was born on November 16, 1939 to Albert and Dorthy (Bang) Wessels in Larmie, Wyoming. She grew up on the ranch with her brother, Jerry Wessels. She graduated from University High School in 1957. In August 1958, she married Bill Allyn and to this union three children were born: Debra, Colleen, and Kelly. In 1965, they moved to California. She began her banking career and later retired as the Bank Branch Manager. She divorced in 1978. In 1980, she married the love of her life, Edmond Kiras II. Following his passing, she moved to Tripp, South Dakota in 2009 to be near her daughter. She loved the community of Tripp. She soon started volunteering at the nursing home and joined the Frieden’s Reformed Women’s Guild. She loved helping others. In her free time, you could find her planting gardens and spending time with her animals.
Karon is survived by her daughters and their families: Debra Odom and her daughters Serenity Odom and Angelica Ramirez, Colleen Christman and her sons Stephen and Jeffrey Christman, and Kelly (Chris) Shirey and their sons Shawn, Jeremy, and Austin Shirey; and five great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by family, friends, and the community.
