Karen Renae Havermann passed away at 3:38 p.m. on Friday, April the 12th, 2019 after a long battle with COPD and diabetes. She was born on August 26th, 1948 in Yankton to Clifford and Dorothy (Anderson) Novak. Karen was the oldest of four children. After obtaining her GED she married Charles Mensch. They had a girl called Angie. They moved to a farm place near Menno. They also ran a welding shop in Freeman. Some time later Karen and her daughter moved back to Yankton to help care for her mother. She met Leander Havermann and they moved to a place north of Yankton. They had another daughter called Amber. After they raised their eight children, they settled in Utica, SD. Karen retired.
Karen is survived by: brother, Clifford Novak of Irene, SD; sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Larry) Adrian of Yankton, SD; brother-in-laws, Raymond Havermann of Rapid City, SD and David Havermann of Denver, CO; sister-in-laws, Anita Gentrup of Hudson, CO, Marie Weinandt of Yankton, SD, and Sheila Novak of Yankton, SD.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Dwayne Novak; and brother, Alvin “Pete” Novak.
