Kaija Claire Jared

Kaija Claire Jared was born on September 9, 1926 to Jorgen and Helena (Pfeiffer) Bruget at Volin, SD. She passed away peacefully at Avera Sacred Heart Majestic Bluffs in Yankton, SD on June 10, 2018 at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 1 day.
Kaija graduated from Volin High School and Dakota Wesleyan University at Mitchell, SD. She married Marvin R. Jared at Mitchell on February 12, 1947. She had taught at Hurley, SD before their marriage and was a substitute teacher where her husband was superintendent.
Kaija was an avid genealogist, having published the Bruget-Freng Family Tree and History in 1961 and 1980. She also wrote a history for the community of Volin. She was a member of Vangen Lutheran Church in Mission Hill, The Yankton Area Genealogical Society, and was secretary/treasurer for the Volin Cemetery for many years.
Kaija is survived by four children: Claire Martin of Onida, SD; Arthur Jared of Springfield, SD; Wendy Tassler of Harrisburg, SD; and Edison (Ann) Jared of Mission Hill, SD. She has two sisters, Fern Davis of Lodi, CA and Diane Gunderson of Yankton. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
Preceding her in death were her husband Marvin "Bud" Jared, her parents, a brother Bernard, sisters Barbara, Janis, and Yvonne, two son-in-laws, Larry Martin and Randy Tassler, and twin grandsons Roy and Duane Martin.
