Joyce Irene Frey (Baltzer), age 79 of Kaylor, SD, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend has gone to be with her loving Lord and Savior on July 23, 2020. She was born on May 19, 1941 to George and Irene (Leischner) Baltzer. She was baptized on June 22, 1941 and confirmed at the Scotland City Hall by Rev. Bettenhausen as a member of the Kaylor Congregational Church. She was married to Leonard Frey on February 14, 1960, at the First Congregational Church. She was active in the church community until her health declined; she taught Sunday School, was active in the choir, Women's Fellowship, Missions Committee and Parsonage Committee. She enjoyed being in the Dakota Home Extension Club.
Along with raising 6 children, she worked as a cook for the Kaylor and Scotland Schools. She dedicated 42 years to the Good Samaritan Society in Scotland, where she spent her last days with her Good Sam family. Her family and friends were able to visit her through the window, using their phones to visit. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, sitting on the floor and playing with them. They were her pride and joy, never missing a birthday gift or party. Joyce's passion was her many flowers surrounding their home. She knew every flowers name. The garden of flowers was like a picture out of a magazine. She spent many hours landscaping.
Joyce was blessed with 6 children: Kelly, Karen, Keith, Kerry, Kendall and Kurtis on farm near and in Kaylor. She enjoyed listening to all the stories the kids had to tell. Probably wondering how they survived to be grown-ups.
She enjoyed playing marbles, scrabble, sudoku, crossword puzzles, coloring pages and watching her soap opera. She enjoyed sewing for her young children. She was an active Facebook user to keep up with her growing family. Joyce loved her church family, sharing a ride with Sheryl or watching online. She enjoyed watching the children's church, school program and sports. She enjoyed going to different community events. Even though her eye sight was failing, she continued to be active as long as she could, with the help of her family.
The girls would come over and visit on the deck and enjoy a bottle of Mikes Hard Lemonade. The conversation was just what we all needed. She would also join the boys at Kelly's, in the shop for mountain oysters where there were many laughs. She was able to visit Gloria in Florida and Bev in Oklahoma. Never enough time to visit, phone calls were made and the good times continued.
