Jeanette Petersen was born on January 27, 1947 to Betty Jean Lange in Springfield, South Dakota. As a child she attended school in Herreid, Parker, and Springfield. She married Anton “Butch” Hovorka in 1966. Two daughters were born to them, Roberta and Rebecca. Rebecca died in 1968 at birth. As a family they lived in Spearfish, SD, Belle Fourche, SD, Rittman, OH, and Belvidere, IL. Butch died in 1982 as a result of a car accident. Jeanette later married and divorced Larry Petersen
In 1982, Jeanette and her aunt Lois Lange operated Lois’ Café in Springfield. After 17 years in 2001, Jeanette sold the business. She worked at Springfield Academy for 4 ½ years, then part time at Caseys. She moved to Sparta, NJ and lived with her daughter and grandson for a time, then moved back to Springfield. She worked part time at Do Wa Diddy’s. She enjoyed working with Kim and seeing many of her old customers come in from the “Café” days. She loved to feed and watch the birds, garden, sew, and read. She was a member of the quilting club called Stitch and Rippers in Springfield. She was always grateful for her wonderful friends, Shirley “Skip” Bochman, Elaine Jones, and Donnie Walz.
