Irene Hilda (Zeeb) Schortzman was born November 6, 1924 in Hutchinson County, SD to Fred and Hilda Zeeb. She was a resident of the Menno-Lesterville area all her life. In May of 1943, she was the first Zeeb to graduate from Menno High School.
On September 10, 1944 Irene was united in marriage to Alton Schortzman at the Salem Reformed Church in Menno. They enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad until Alton passed away on January 10th, 2006. Irene enjoyed quilting with her sister, Vivian, and having coffee with family and friends. She lived in her own home and drove her car up until her death. Irene passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019, attaining the age of 94 years, 2 months, and 7 days.
Irene is survived by: two sons, Mel (Linda) Schortzman of Clark, SD and Roger (Marilyn) Schortzman of Lesterville, SD; daughter-in-law, Dianne Schortzman of Scotland, SD; nine grandchildren, Amy Teply, Cory Schortzman, Jason Schortzman, Buford Miller, Bret Schortzman, Jared Schortzman, Melissa Eickman, Kristie Eimers, and Holly Fuerst; twenty great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sister, Vivian (Vernon) Gall of Lesterville, SD; sister-in-law, Norma Christensen of Yankton, SD; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, the Uwe Hahn family.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Schortzman; parents, Fred and Hilda Zeeb; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Julius and Martha Schortzman; son, Merit Schortzman; grandson, Bronson Miller; brother, Marvin (and wife, Wilma) Zeeb; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pete and Irene Zeeb; and brother-in-law Kenneth Christensen; and nephews, Mark and Max Zeeb.
