Helmuth R. “Howie” Batterman was born Friday, March 28, 1930 at Delmont, South Dakota to Harm and Karolina (Drefs) Batterman. Helmuth was united in marriage to Metha Fuerst on April 13, 1958 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Avon. Throughout his life Howie worked for the railroad, Frey Hardware and Implement and for various construction companies. His prized possessions were his yellow El Camino and his riding lawn mower. Howie passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society of Tripp, having attained the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 26 days.
Howie is survived by his wife, Metha Batterman of Tripp; sisters Frieda (Roy) Struck and Minnie (Nathan) Vilhauer and brother Norman (Violet) Batterman, all of Parkston, and sister-in-law Ruby Batterman of Tripp.
In addition to his parents, Harm and Karolina Batterman, Howie was preceded in death by four sisters: Martha (Henry) Struck, Helen (Alfred) Frey, Erna (Carl) Guthmiller and Hattie (John) Schrank; and two brothers: Albert Batterman and William Batterman.
