Helma (Bietz) Konrad was born Tuesday, December 7, 1909 on a farm east of Tripp to Fred and Pauline (Ziebart) Bietz. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kaylor. They moved to Kaylor, where Helma attended school through the 9th grade. She loved to read and write. She was united in marriage to Walter Konrad on December 20, 1927, also at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Together they farmed north of Kaylor until moving to Tripp in 1957. Helma became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society of Tripp on November 29, 2005 due to the big ice storm.  This was an opportunity to make more friends and she enjoyed visiting with the residents and staff. Helma enjoyed being with people, whether playing cards or just visiting with friends. She was blessed with near-perfect recall regarding names, dates, and events. Helma tried to live her Christian faith and family and church were her highest priorities. She appreciated those around her, being optimistic and always seeing good in others. Helma passed away on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, having attained the age of 101 years, 4 months, and 17 days. Blessed be her memory.
Helma is survived by four children: Norman (Leola) Konrad of Tripp, Marlene Nuss of Tripp, Dwayne (Bonnie) Konrad of Burlington, Colorado, and Harlan (Judy) Konrad of Watertown; a sister, Linda (Bill) Rhodes of Port Angeles, Washington; a sister-in-law, Frances Konrad of Parkston; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Fred and Pauline Bietz, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, on October 12, 1996; son Willard Konrad on September 20, 2002; son-in-law Floyd Nuss on March 29, 2002; a grandson, John Konrad; and a great-grandson, Thomas Konrad.
