Helen (Sternhagen) Sedlacek was born on April 4, 1923 to Thomas and Louise (Schuch) Sternhagen on a farm 9 miles northwest of Tabor, South Dakota. She was baptized at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Tabor by Fr. Bouska. Her godparents were Thomas and Catherine Bouska of Tabor. As a child, Helen attended the rural Tabor school district.
On October 21, 1941, she was united in marriage to Wesley Sedlacek and they made their home on farm in rural Tripp. In 1969, they moved into Scotland. For over 25 years, Helen worked as a CNA at the Good Samaritan Society of Scotland.
Helen not only enjoyed cooking and baking, but was incredibly talented at it. She looked forward to feeding the family every Saturday night. She was also a skilled seamstress who sewed her own uniforms and many doll clothes.
Helen passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society of Scotland having attained the age of 95 years, 11 months, and 15 days.
She is survived and remembered by her son John Sedlacek of Tyndall, SD; grandsons: Jeffrey Sedlacek of rural Tripp, SD, Mark Sedlacek of Scotland, SD, and Jared Sedlacek of rural Tripp, SD; granddaughter Mary (Sid) Brandt of Tabor, SD; great-grandson Wesley Brandt; and great-granddaughter Ava Brandt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 3 brothers, and 4 sisters.
