Gary Dean Stoebner was born on December 29, 1958 to Elverna (Schulz) and Aaron Stoebner, in Parkston, SD. He was the second of five siblings. Gary grew up on the family farm near Tripp, SD, where his strong work ethic began as a youngster. He helped with many chores, including feeding livestock, milking cows, and doing field work. At a young age he also learned to ride horses which were used to help work cattle.
Gary attended and graduated from Tripp High School in 1977. At the age of 21, Gary began to farm land on his own, and in 1982 he moved one mile west of the home place, where he began milking his own cows. In 1989, Gary sold his herd of milk cows and started raising beef cattle. He also worked part-time at the Tripp and Mitchell livestock sale barns. Gary's passion for farming and raising livestock was very evident, and he shared this love with his family.
Gary married his wife, Robin Lea Wirt, on September 28, 1985 at the Parker Presbyterian Church in Parker, SD. Over the course of their 39-year marriage, they were blessed with three children and five grandchildren. Gary, along with Robin, enjoyed following their children in their church, school, and 4-H activities, and spending time with their grandchildren. Dad and Grandpa were Gary's proudest titles.
Gary was a lifetime member of the Friedens Reformed Church, in Tripp, SD where he was baptized, confirmed, and attended Sunday school classes. He was on the church board for many years, serving as the secretary and president, as well as serving on many other church committees. Gary was also a Dakota Plains Ag board member, Cenex board member, and was the Oak Hollow Township treasurer for nearly 40 years.
Activities Gary enjoyed over the years included: league bowling, cattle penning, and riding his horse. In the past few years, Gary had a lot of fun receiving and responding to photos and videos from his family. It allowed him to be a part of their lives on a regular basis no matter where he was or what he was doing.
Although Gary always lived life to the fullest, he had many health challenges, especially later in his life. Most notably, he had a liver transplant in July 2019 and a kidney transplant in December 2021. Through Gary's health struggles, he met many caring health care professionals and developed a special relationship with the Avera McKennan Transplant Team who became like a second family to him and Robin. Gary remained faithful and strong throughout all of his trials and considered himself blessed to have received so many miracles.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Robin, his daughters, Emily (Shad) Quissell, Sioux Falls, SD and Hannah (Troy) Gillen, De Smet, SD; his son, Chase (Bobbi) Stoebner, Tripp, SD; his grandchildren, Asher, Micah, and Jude Quissell, Remi Gillen, and Colter Stoebner; his brothers, Dale Stoebner, Sioux Falls, SD, and Mark Stoebner, Tripp, SD; his sisters, Lori Kollmann, Howard, SD, and Dawn (Greg) Stratman, Owasso, OK; his mother-in-law, Bonnie Wirt, Parker, SD; his brother-in-law, Andy Wirt, Parker, SD; his sisters-in-law, Gayli (Dennis) Heiman, Pleasanton, CA and Chris Wirt, Parker, SD; 7 nieces; 7 nephews, and many other family and friends.
