Frank C. Cihak was born on November 29, 1918 to Joesph and Katherine (Plavec) Cihak in rural Bon Homme County, South Dakota. He attended Emanuel School District #48. In 1942, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during WWII. During his service, he was stationed in New Guinea, Australia, Biak, Japan, and Okinawa, Japan as a Military Policeman. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
On October 8, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lorine Wormsbecher in Avon, South Dakota. Together they ran Frank’s Service Station between Avon and Tripp for six years. They then lived in Dante, South Dakota for a short time. They later moved onto a farm southwest of Tripp, South Dakota where they farmed until 1981 at which time they retired and moved into Tyndall.
Frank was a member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church in Vodnany, South Dakota as well as a member of the Jelkin-Harms American Legion Post #142.
On July 20, 2009, Frank became a resident at Good Samaritan Society of Tyndall. During his time there, he enjoyed playing bingo, watching TV, and other activities. Frank passed away there on Monday, April 30, 2018 having attained the age of 99 years, 5 months, and 1 day.
He is survived and remembered by daughter, Marilyn (Rodney) Shawd of Letcher, SD; sons: Donald Cihak of Tyndall, Ronald Cihak of Woodward, OK, Larry Cihak of Woodward, OK, and Garry (Janice) Cihak of Yankton, SD; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lorine, his parents, sister Laura Hamberger, and brother Louis Cihak.
