Evelyn L. Stoebner was born on Sunday, February 10, 1924 on the family farm in Hutchinson County, northeast of Tripp, South Dakota. Her parents were Adolph and Sarah (Auch) Herr. Evelyn was united in marriage to Raymond O. Stoebner on April 14, 1946 in the basement of Frieden’s Reformed Church in Tripp. She took great pride in being a farm wife and mother. Along with the normal farmwife chores, she raised chickens and ducks and always kept a large garden. She loved to sew and quilt for her family, and also enjoyed fishing and dancing. Evelyn was a member of Frieden’s Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a member of the women’s guild. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities. Evelyn died on Monday, November 17, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Society of Tripp at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 7 days.
Evelyn is survived by two children: Keith Stoebner and wife Lynn of Tripp and Darla Vilhauer and husband Glen of Watertown, South Dakota: four grandchildren: Kyle Stoebner of Madison, South Dakota, Darin Vilhauer and wife Michelle of Shakopee, Minnesota, Chad Vilhauer of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kali Vilhauer of Watertown, South Dakota: one brother, Edmund Herr and wife Noverna of Menno, South Dakota; one sister, Luella Goehring and husband Lotar of Delmont, South Dakota; and two sisters-in-law, Meta Herr of Tripp and Ruth Gyory of Grass Valley, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray O., her parents, Adolph and Sarah Herr, seven brothers: Albert, Ervin, Raymond, Herbert, Alton, Reno, and Marvin, and a grandchild, Chelsea Vilhauer in infancy.
