Ethellyne “Ethy” Maryanne Schnabel was born on May 16, 1933 to Moses and Albina (Petrik) Shindelbower in Tabor, South Dakota. She attended Southern State Teacher’s College and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education. For several years, she worked as an economic and business teacher at Tripp School. In 1956, Ethy was united in marriage to Curtis Allen Schnabel in Tripp, South Dakota. She owned and operated several businesses in Tripp, including the Toggery Store, Cookie’s Bar, and Schnabel Construction alongside her husband.
She enjoyed sewing, dancing to polka music, and fishing. She loved making her own dolls as well as growing a collection of an assortment of dolls.
Ethy passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 at her home in Tripp having attained the age of 84 years and 27 days.
She is survived and remembered by her children: Mark (Sandy) Schnabel of Lincoln, NE, Jerry (Janelle) Schnabel of Colorado Springs, CO, Thomas (Michelle) Schnabel of Littleton, CO, and Kelly Schnabel of Tripp, SD; grandchildren: Trevor, Courtney, Sara, Jared, Jordan, and K-Loni; and sister Bette Boxa of Gregory, SD.
She was preceded in death by her husband in September 2015, her parents, and brother Jim Shindelbower.
