She graduated from Norton High School in Kansas in 1964. Eileen met and married George Jaeger in 1965 after meeting him at the county fair. George’s railroad career took them to East Moline, Illinois for 16 years where they raised four children. During this time they lived on a small farm and Eileen spent her time as a homemaker and raising their children. In her spare time, she volunteered in their church, visited elderly neighbors, sewed her own and the kids’ clothing, crocheted and enjoyed cooking, baking and entertaining friends. In 1981 they moved to South Dakota to farm full-time in Tyndall.
Eileen experienced a near death encounter in 1994 with a massive heart attack where she was code blue twice, followed by a helicopter ride to Sioux Falls. George and Eileen retired to town in 2002. Eileen lost George to MDS cancer in 2022. She recently moved to Sioux Falls to live with her daughter, Sharon, until her death due to cardiorenal syndrome at Doughtery Hospice House, Sioux Falls.
Eileen was a member of St. Leo Altar Society and always made sure that a salad or dessert was taken to the various events. She was very active with her grandchildren through the years when her health allowed. She worked part-time at Sandra Rose doing alterations and spent 10 years helping her daughter, Trish with her business at Hometown Floral. She also loved playing cards, games and putting together puzzles.
