Doris Lorainne Madison was born September 14, 1927 to Elmer and Alice (Grove) Waters. She grew up in Yankton and graduated from Yankton High School in 1945.
She married William Stubbs December 27, 1945. Two children, Candace Stubbs and Dennis Stubbs were born from this union. William passed away in 1951. On April 7, 1954 Doris married James B. Madison of Viborg, South Dakota. In 1957 they welcomed a son, James Scott Madison, into the family.
Doris worked for her parents at Waters Paint and Glass for over 17 years. After her parents sold the business, she worked for Yankton Paint Company and eventually became the decorator for Sherman Williams in Yankton until her retirement. She was also extremely active in the VFW Auxiliary in Yankton. She was a life member and spearheaded many projects and services. She enjoyed life, cards, and going to Phinney’s.
Doris passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton at the age of 90 years and 8 months.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband William Stubbs, her husband James Madison, her son Dennis Stubbs, her sister and brother-in-law Millicent and Don Fastrup, her brothers, Don Waters and Dan Waters.
Survivors include: her daughter Candace (Don) Johnson of Oakland, NE; her son James Scott (Patty) Madison of Yankton, SD; her brother Dick Waters of Colorado Springs, CO: her brother Darrel Waters of Sioux Falls, SD; and daughter-in-law Lori Stubbs of Underwood, IA. She is also survived by grandchildren Crystal (Dave) Meek of Sioux Falls, SD, Doug Johnson (Toni) of Omaha, NE, Leah (Joe) Diehl of Bellevue, NE, Makayla Stubbs of Underwood, IA, Lindsey Stubbs of Des Moines, IA, and Tyler Madison and David Madison of Yankton, SD, plus three great-grandchildren.
