Dennis Lee Fischer Sr was born on February 9, 1949, to Ervin and Irene (Wittmeier) Fischer in Tyndall, SD. He was raised on the family farm south of Tripp, SD. Dennis attended Maag Rural School and Tripp High School. He met his wife, Mary Ellen Flynn of Irene SD, at Groveland Park near Tyndall. They were united in marriage on May 14, 1966, at Friedens Reformed United Church of Christ in Tripp by Reverend Henry Roemer. Dennis and Mary had three children: Dennis Jr., Terry, and Sherry.
Dennis stayed busy as the years went by. He sold Golden Harvest seed corn and won Jaycee’s Outstanding Young Farmer Award in 1978. In the early years along with his father and brother, Dennis drove cattle/grain semi-trailers for Fischer Trucking. Later Dennis took over the family business with his son and grandson. He owned a custom corn shelling business that he and his family operated for over 17 years. Dennis and his family farmed many acres of land over the years along with raising cattle and pigs on their farm south of Tripp. He instilled hard working ethics in his kids as they grew up. Dennis took pride in keeping their farm looking well maintained.
Dennis had a love for rodeos. He especially loved the Scotland Rodeo every year where he was a member of the Missouri River Team Penners. As the years went by there wasn’t a day that Dennis and Mary didn’t watch a rodeo or an old western show on tv. They were also fond of watching the stockcar races at the Wagner Speedway during racing season.
Dennis enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always had a sparkle in his eye and a grin on his face when they would stop for a visit.
After numerous health issues, Dennis joined Mary at Bormann Manor in Parkston in February 2023. It was very hard on him to no longer be able to feed the cattle or work in the fields.
Grateful for sharing his life are wife, Mary Ellen Fischer; children: Dennis (Sherry) Fischer Jr, Terry (Sheri) Fischer, Sherry (John) Friman all of Tripp; grandchildren: Brittany (Brice) Zwak, Dustin (Jen) Fischer, Cody (Shelby) Fischer, Trisha (Wade) Weber, Malorie (Tony) Walz, Dalton Fischer, Kelley (Austin) Eggebraaten, Morgan (Damon) Macleary and Jacey Friman; ten great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Donna (Gerald) Schaeffer; brother-in-law James Flynn and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
