Darrell Ray Magstadt was born on February 26, 1944 to Benjamin and Ruth (Gall) Magstadt in Yankton, South Dakota. He graduated from Scotland High School in 1962. In November 1963, Darrell enlisted in the United States Army and served on the DMZ in South Korea as a Medical Corpsman. He was honorably discharged in September 1965. On November 5, 1966, he was united in marriage to LaVerna Pietz in Tripp, South Dakota. Upon his return home, he began farming in the Tripp area and would continue to do so until his retirement in 2012. In December 2017, the couple made their home in Yankton.
Darrell enjoyed collecting Aladdin oil lamps and following his retirement, he also collected farm toys that were replicas of his earlier machinery. He loved going on trips to visit family. He especially enjoyed the ATVing trips in the Colorado Rockies and Black Hills with his family. Darrell also held dear the time he taught his two older grandchildren how to drive the side-by-side. In 2015, Darrell was thrilled to buy his dream car, a red GT Mustang and last year was able to attend the Mustang Rally in Sturgis. He was a good husband, father, and grandfather who wanted what was best for his family.
Darrell passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House in Yankton having attained the age of 74 years and 15 days.
He is survived and remembered by his wife of 51 years, LaVerna Magstadt of Yankton; sons: Corey (Kate) Magstadt of Littleton, CO and Chad (Jody) Magstadt of Bartonville, IL; and grandchildren: Alanna, Aidan, and Oliver Magstadt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary Magstadt.
