Darlene Rosina Buchmann was born Thursday, August 20, 1936 at Mitchell, South Dakota to Theophil and Minnie (Renner) Bitterman. She was united in marriage to Marlin Buchmann on November 2, 1958 at Tripp, South Dakota. As well as caring for her family, Darlene worked at Raven Industries and at the Tripp Good Samaritan Center. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and bowling. She also loved polka music, especially that of Lawrence Welk and Myron Floren. Darlene’s special joy in life came from spending time with her grandchildren. Due to an automobile accident and failing health, she became a resident of the Avera Brady Health and Rehab Center in Mitchell in August of 2005. It is there that she passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011, having attained the age of 74 years, 6 months, and 4 days.
Grateful for sharing Darlene’s life are her seven children: David (Teresa) Buchmann of Mitchell, Mary (David) Bartunek of Tripp, Daniel Buchmann of Plankinton, Darrold (Melody) Buchmann of Utica, Marie (Tom) Bechen of Mitchell, Duane (Nancy) Buchmann of Tripp and Marlys (Jorge) Lacroix of Marshall, Minnesota; nineteen grandchildren: Zachary, Abigail, Melanie and fiancé Mike, Jeremy and fiancée Billie, Danielle, Anthony, Clayton, Cordell, Ashley, Nicole, Melissa, Rachel, Sarah, Rebecca, Kelsey, Preston, Jorge Jay, Samantha, and Kristina; one great-grandchild, Madison; a brother, Dennis Bitterman and his friend, Mary Lou Hoff of Tripp; three sisters: Delores (Maynard) Schmidt of Mitchell, Betty (Ernie) Hieb of Mitchell, and Marlene (Maynard) Streyle of Olivet.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Buchmann on August 15, 1994, her parents, Theophil and Minnie Bitterman, and a sister, Wilhelmina Bitterman.
