Crystal M. Simantel was born Friday, August 17, 1917 on a farm in Hutchinson County at Wittenberg, South Dakota near Olivet to Sam and Pearl (Lenker) Bohner. She attended school through the 9th grade, after which she worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Treick. Crystal was united in marriage to Maurice Simantel on October 7, 1939 at Mission, Minnesota. She was a devoted farm wife, raising poultry and helping out on the farm wherever she could. She was an Avon representative in the Scotland area for several years. She worked in housekeeping and the laundry at Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital from 1968 through 1978. Crystal loved to quilt and read her bible. She was an active member of St. Paul Ladies’ Aid. As a resident of the Good Samaritan Society, she enjoyed playing bingo, reading and attending devotions. She treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Crystal passed away on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society of Scotland, having achieved the age of 95 years, 27 days.
Crystal is survived by her son, Terry (Dianne) Simantel of Scotland; four grandchildren: Chad (Christy) Simantel, Chris Simantel, Debbie (Steve) White, and Amy (Mike) Dahlquist; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marge Bohner of Sun City, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, a daughter, Marilyn Ireland, her parents, Sam and Pearl Bohner, and brothers Earl and Kenneth Bohner.
