Charles “Chuck” A. Gukeisen was born on May 18, 1934 to Edward J. and Katherine (Hieb) Gukeisen in rural Tripp, South Dakota. He was raised in the Tripp area and graduated Tripp High School in 1952. He continued his education in engineering at SD School of Mines and Technology, University of Idaho, and Iowa State University.
Chuck actively served in the U.S. Army from 1957-8 and in the Army Reserves for 8 years.
On June 28, 1964, he was united in marriage to Lyla Jean Wittmeier at Kingsburg, South Dakota. To this union two daughters were born, Karyn and Landra.
Chuck worked 37 years in the nuclear power industry at several sites throughout the USA, retiring to Yankton in 1994. He was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and American Nuclear Society (ANS).
Chuck passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice in Yankton, South Dakota having attained the age of 83 years.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Lyla Jean Gukeisen of Yankton, SD; daughters: Karyn Gukeisen of Austin, TX and Landra (Joel) Wilson of Owasso, TX; grandson Charles Wilson; and several beloved cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
