Calvin Emil Schaeffer was born on November 23, 1930 to Emil and Kathyrn (Gobel) Schaeffer at the farm home by Menno, South Dakota. He was baptized March 8, 1931 at the Saron Reformed Church at Menno, South Dakota by Rev. Kaemyschen in the Reformed faith in the Saron Reformed Church.
He attended Jamesville #21 county school of Menno and helped out on the family farm. He married Alice Jane Gall of Lesterville on March 30, 1952 at the Petersburg Rural Congregational Church of Lesterville by Rev. Reiger. They were blessed with three daughters.
Calvin farmed in the Lesterville area. He was mechanically inclined and could keep the old machinery and cars running. The family then moved to Yankton where he worked for Freeman Company, Tielke Garage, and Yankton Inn.
Calvin passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society of Scotland having attained the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 4 days.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice Schaeffer of Yankton; daughters: Karen Wood of Yankton, Bonnie Palmer of Norfolk, NE, and Wanda Schaeffer of Yankton; grandchildren: Jeremiah Nelson of Rosalie, NE, Jason Nelson of Norfolk, NE, and Jenny Lynn Cheatte of Myrtle Beach, SC; great-grandchildren: Haylee and Kelsey Nelson of Norfolk, NE, Scarlett and Jack Cheatte of SC, Beckett Nelson of Norfolk, NE, and Mia Nelson of Rosalie, NE; sisters: Alvinia Auch of Lesterville, SD and Darlene Kost of Letcher, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wilfred, sisters Lenora and Viola Munkvold, twin infant siblings Arnold and Alfrieda Schaeffer, and brothers-in-law Jerome Munkvold and Robert Auch.
