Betty Jean Bender was born on October 19, 1946 to Reinhold and Beatha (Herr) Hirsch. She attended grade school at Pathfinder #76 and graduated from Tripp High School. On July 28, 1964, she was united in marriage to Jerry Bender. For many years Betty worked as a waitress for the Lawler Café in Mitchell where she got to meet a lot of famous people who performed at the Corn Palace. She also worked as the lead person who setup the salad bar at the Four Corners Café in Parkston.
Betty loved to spend time with her family and many friends. Her two cats, Bob and Eddie, were the center of her life.
Betty passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society of Lennox.
She is survived by her two children: Terry (Cheryl) Bender of Tea and Sheila (Ray) Poirier of Lennox; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Kenneth (Irene) Hirsch of Yankton and Maynard Hirsch of Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry in 2010, her parents, brother Melvin Hirsch in 2015, and sister-in-law Audrey Hirsch in 2012.
