Arles Ann Geuther was born on Thursday, March 15, 1928 to Raymond and Ann Johanna (Frey) Geuther in Delmont, South Dakota. She attended country school in rural Delmont until the 8th grade. Arles spent her life caring for her family as a homemaker on the family homestead west of Delmont. She loved raising chickens, turkeys, guineas, and gathering all the fresh farm eggs. Every Saturday she spent baking bread in her wood stove and every Monday was wash day. Though her parents bought an electric drier in the 1960s, they never hooked it up rather preferring to hang their clothes out winter or summer. While life was never easy on the farm, Arles was content and happy to care for and be with her family. Throughout her life, she enjoyed sending cards to family and friends, keeping a daily diary, sewing, and crocheting. In 2010, Arles made the hard decision to move to the Good Samaritan Society of Tripp due to health reasons. Although she missed the farm, the nursing home brought new joys for her, like bingo with the other residents.
Arles passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society of Tripp having attained the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 22 days.
She is survived by three brothers: Robert Geuther of Mt. Vernon, Jerry Geuther of Delmont, and Sydney Geuther of Viborg; sister-in-law Delaine Geuther of Yankton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Raymond, sister and brother-in-law Wallace and Ilene Peters, and brother and sister-in-law Lloyd and Mildred Geuther.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to the Good Samaritan Society of Tripp and Arles’ Parkston and Yankton doctors for all the great care given to Arles.
